Issue 12 focuses on the work of Atelier Bugio, a practice founded in 1980 in the archipelago of Madeira and later established on the Portuguese mainland. A decisive shift occurred in 1988, when João Favila became director, marking a renewed commitment to the public realm. Since then, the studio's work has been defined by a consistent attention to how architecture engages the city. This concern is evident in the recent Lisbon projects presented here, which introduce mechanical means'such as elevators and funiculars'to propose new ways of inhabiting urban space. The intervention in the Graça district stands out for articulating multiple functions within spaces of very modest dimensions.
