Travel Sickness is a singular book project from Sheffield in the English midlands which takes us on a surreal journey into the 21st century. Drawing inspiration from the messiness, violence and beauty of the world around them together with the writings of Stephen Jones, DED have unfurled their vision and planted something new. Innovatively, the book´s design is a literal and emotional reaction to the text. The illustrations convey the fragmented thoughts of Jack as he takes an unwanted and disturbing journey in to his own sense of loss. Stephen Jones´ bizarre narrative describes how absurd life can be in the new millennium. He uses consumer goods, ads, themes and McPlaces as effective metaphors of the everyday. DED Ass. transfers these into breathtaking graphic illustrations. The result is an elegant and experimental combination of graphics and text, full of bittersweet irony and humour. In 1991, Nic and Jon Daughtry founded DED Associates in Sheffield. DED`s commitment has seen the company shoot into every corner of the creative sphere. Mainly known for their diverse works for music labels, DED´s commissions reach from MTV, Hydrogene Dukebox, MasterCard, Nissan, The (Millennium) Dome and the unnamed. Stephen Jones was brought up in England, Wales and New Zealand. He moved to Sheffield in 1994. Since then he´s reputed as the successful musician and songwriter of his band BABYBIRD. DED designed all of Babybird´s album covers, except the first and the latest. Considering the great narrative content in Stephen Jones´ albums and singles, he was DED´s first choice when they thought of basing a book on a short story. In his teens and into his twenties, before making music, Jones wrote many short stories. Stephen Jones has evidently decided to turn his distinctive hand to story-telling. Recently his first novel "The Bad Book" was published by I.M.P. Fiction.
