Sustainable Urban Design – The Next Step is a fully revised edition of Sustainable Urban Design – Examples and Perspectives (2005), which won the ISOCARP Gerd Alders Award for the best professional publication in the field of urban design and town planning.
Like its predecessor, Sustainable Urban Design – The Next Step, describes the next steps in urban design practice in a straightforward and accessible format. Using clear and richly illustrated examples of current projects, the authors show that sustainable urban design is not just a utopian dream; it is undergoing continual development in contemporary building practice and is increasingly becoming an integral and essential part of modern urban design. The development of concepts such as ‘CO2 neutral’, ‘climate proof’ and ‘cradle to cradle’ are evidence of the growing support for sustainability and the rising levels of expertise in the field. In fact, sustainable urban design is fast becoming the key driving force of urban planning and spatial develop-ment. This book highlights new discussions and insights and provides new and updated examples and references.
Sustainable Urban Design – The Next Step has been compiled by the Working Group on Sustainable Urban Develop-ment, a broad group of experts from the Dutch professional societies for urban designers and planners (BNSP) and landscape architects (NVTL).
