This book offers an overview of the state-of-art of Italian applications of complexity science and new ICT (information and communication technologies) in urban and territorial planning domain, on the basis of a large number of contributions very well representative of the ensemble of schools and scholars. Seven key issues are considered, covering both the intrinsic complexity of geographical systems and the complex reasoning of the planners. As regard to the latter, the difficult tasks of knowledge building and management, of deriving actions from knowledge, and finally of performing actions, are taken in account. In this context, a special attention is paid to technologies for knowledge acquisition or supporting actions execution as well as to the holistic complexity of a plan in its whole.
