OLMSTED PARKS IN NEW JERSEY

Using more then 200 historic and contemporary photographs, vintage postcards, and Olmsted sketches and plans, the beauty of landscape design by the son and stepson of the creator of New Yorks Central Park, are examined. Primarily for the county park commissions in Essex, Union , and Passaic counties Frederick Law Olmsted, Jr. and John Charles Olmsted, continued with their fathers naturalistic style of landscape architecture, with 20th century modifications. Follow the chronologically detailed development of each park or reservation as it was transformed from former farmland, swamp, forest, or a previous park. Branch Brook Park in Newark, Cadwalader Park in Trenton, Warinanco Park in Roselle, and Brookdale Park in Monclair and Bloomfeild are all showcased in this must have for anyone who appreciates the beauty of any park. Jeanne Kolva is a life long nature lover, park visitor, and preservationist. She has developed a passion for photography after working at a NASA photograph library.
