The internationally renowned exhibition hall for contemporary art Portikus is situated on an island in the river Main near the Alte Brucke in Frankfurt. The building development on the island is carried out in connection with the renovation and widening of the bridge. The architectural design of the new construction is developed in accordance with the history of the place and follows the typology of the medieval houses of Frankfurt. This book highlights the completion process of the building. The history of the Alte Brucke, of the building and its details as well as the idea of its usage as an exhibition hall are presented comprehensively with historical and current photographs, plans and texts by Dieter Bartetzko (FAZ), Christoph Mackler and Daniel Birnbaum, the head of the Stadelschule in Frankfurt.
