This DVD includes the BALTIC produced film The Making of the Hoerengracht (1923'), an archival film by Tom Preiss (3117') and Nancy Reddin Kienholz in conversation with Marco Livingstone (2917'). The powerful and provocative work of American artists Edward Kienholz and Nancy Reddin Kienholz features works from 1963 - 2004 presented in the UK for the first time since 1971. The exhibition comprises over seventy works ranging from Concept Tableaux and watercolours made in the 1960s, to the large room-sized environments of the 1980s, including The Ozymandias Parade, The Merry-Go-World or Begat By Chance and the Wonder Horse Trigger and The Hoerengracht. The artists produce passionate, often brutal works of social and political satire that critique modern society and adopt a strong anti-establishment position. Compelled by a deep sense of moral justice and a provocative sense of humour the artists uncompromising creations continue to have a searing energy and pose a direct challenge to the viewer.
