Alberto Giacometti (1901-1966) came from a family of famous artists. His father, Giovanni Giacometti, was one of the leading Swiss Post-Impressionists and perhaps Albertos only real teacher. His brother Diego was his close assistant and also modeled for him. After Albertos death, Diego became well-known for his furniture and sculptures. His brother Bruno was a renowned architect. Alberto Giacomettis mother, Annetta, his wife, Annette, and Silvio Berthoud, son of his sister Ottilia (who died in childbirth), were all favorite models of his and therefore central to the development of the sculptors career. Finally, Augusto Giacometti, although only a distant relative and therefore not a direct artistic connection, was 'the other genius' in the Giacometti family, and his paintings continue to fascinate the public to this day.Experience the highlights of this grand exhibition through our audio guide. Part of the series Art to Hear, forty major works by the Giacometti family are introduced through words and images, while the guide also tells the memorable story of this artistic family: a unique chapter in art history.
