When one speaks about ex-libris there immediately come to mind heraldic bearings, old- fashioned customs and gentlefolk belonging to another era. Nothing could be more wrong, even though appearances are deceiving. The ex-libris came into being during the fifteenth century (one of the first to our knowledge is attributed to Albrechet Durer,1516) at a time when there were very few private libraries.
