This project was elaborated in 1983, in the same week as my competition entry for the Bastille opera- house. Its birth was painless; and subsequent work on the details, the ornament, followed on naturally from what is, for me, an integral aspect of architecture: movement, not only of the eye, butof the whole body. Seeing enables movement, movement enables one to see. Like architecture, dance is a celebration of space. Place creates movement, and movement is deployed within the stability of place.
