In "Over Her Dead Body: Death Femininity and the Aesthetic", her much reviewed book published in 1992, Elisabeth Bronfen already wrote on society, literature, art and artists, proving her clear view and her talent for precise analysis. "Crossmappings" collects for the first time a selection of Elisabeth Bronfen's essays on art and visual culture for a wider public. The majority of them has never been published before in English, nearly all of them have appeared for the first time in small publications and catalogues and have been known to a specialist audience only. In a new introductory essay Bronfen reflects on the deep changes in current visual culture and its great importance for our everyday life.
