The particular importance of skin, or the surface of a building, and what it contains is highlighted in this issue of C3 through seven particular architectural projects, including Nouvel's Danish Radio Concert House, the Music Theatre in Graz by UN Studio and Vicens+ Ramos Architects' Parish Center in Rivas-Vaciamadrid. In addition, C3 also features four projects that engage in an architecture of the machine, including: OMA's Prada Transformer, dRMM Architects' Sliding House and the Spacebuster by raumlaborberlin. Lastly, seven works by Carlos Castanheira, a Portuguese architect that makes particular use of natural materials, are reviewed. Illustrated throughout with colour photographs, technical drawings, models and explanatory texts, each chapter is introduced by an explanatory essay.
