What is scenography? What can scenography do? The heavyweight publication entitled 'Scenography - Making spaces talk', recently published by avedition, reflects ATELIER BRÜCKNER's view of this still relatively young design discipline. A richly illustrated, extensive retrospective of Atelier projects from 2002 to 2010 is interwoven with sections describing how the internationally active scenographers from Stuttgart actually go about their work. The individual stages of this work are vividly presented and elucidated, from content analysis, methods and instruments to concrete implementation, i.e. the making. On a total of 368 pages, the book (English and German) traces the genesis of the scenographic projects. It invites the reader to become acquainted with the creative, interdisciplinary process and to accompany it on its way from the briefing to the opening of the exhibition. The unusually candid look behind the scenes of the Atelier provides insights into the variegated process of scenographic form finding, which is committed to the maxim 'form follows content'. In addition, the projects that are presented illustrate the far-reaching range of tasks covered by scenography today: from museum exhibition, trade-fair stands and architecture to artistic projects and expo pavilions. The deliberate confrontation with and controlled amalgamation of content and space are the basis of all projects. Content becomes three-dimensional and physically accessible.
