ARCHITECTUUR IN NEDERLAND. JAARBOEK 2008/2009. ARCHITECTURE IN THE NETHERLANDS. YEARBOOK 2008/09

This years edition of the yearbook Architecture in the Netherlands is brought to you by Samir Bantal, JaapJan Berg, Kees van der Hoeven, and Anne Luijten. They have selected no fewer than thirty-two projects, representing the best that Dutch architecture has to offer in the year 2008. These selections run the gamut from residential and business structures to schools and cemetery pavilions, including both new buildings and renovations. Projects carried out in 2008 escaped the influence of the economic crisis, as this impressive collection demonstrates. In seven brief essays, the editors also provide journalistic coverage of the architectural year, reflecting on the current climate in the sector and the wider context. The crisis is addressed, of course, with special attention to its consequences for young architects and the profession in general. The editors also discuss sustainability, a challenge that keeps growing in importance, as well as topics such as the quality of construction work. Other articles deal with office buildings and the diversification of the profession.
