There are people who seem to have the ability to foresee changes, anticipate crises, and identify, before others do, the issues that will shape the future. Determined to challenge accepted norms, their virtue inspires awe, and the significance of their theories or the scope of their work is often only fully understood years later. Andrés Jaque is among them, but his prolific production demonstrates that disobedience to established norms can also be expressed in present tense. And indeed, as Luis Fernández-Galiano comments in his presentation, his Office for Political Innovation has sought, using the tools of the profession and without neglecting its aesthetic aspect, to address a wider range of realities, expanding the themes, scales, and subjects to which architecture must respond. This fixation on change is stressed in the article by sociologist Albena Yaneva and described by Jaque himself in the six themes that structure this volume. From the disobedient devices - such as his early IKEA Disobedients and Cosmo projects - to the more-than-human constructions, including the recent Rambla-Climate House and Reggio School, this collection of installations, works, and projects confirms that Jaque's architecture goes beyond the ordinary and is capable of opening up the critical field, yet always with poetic intelligence.
