Tadao Ando - 1941 born in Osaka - is one of the most important contemporary Japanese architects. He developed a radically new architecture characterized by the use of unfinished reinforced concrete structures. Using a geometric simplicity which reveals a subtlety and richness in spatial articulation, Ando has generated an architecture that shares the serenity and clarity that characterize traditional Japanese architecture. This book focusses on the Japanese influences upon Western architecture and presents three buildings of Tadao Ando: the Vitra Seminar House in Weil am Rhein (Germany), the Naoshima Contemporary Art Museum (Japan) and Fabrica - Benetton Communication Research Center in Villorba/Treviso (Italy).
