Broad Horizons / Larges Horizons: ADPI Architecture and Engineering presents the history of ADPI, an international team of architects and engineers who specialize in airport development and large-scale building and infrastructure projects. Broad Horizons / Larges Horizons documents how ADPI, founded in 2000 as a subsidiary of the Aéroports de Paris Group, established itself through the export of its expertise and diversity, from extensive projects on airports, to operas and stadiums. Focusing on their projects over the last ten years including the Opera in Beijing, the French Embassy in Japan and Jeddah Airport City, the interdisciplinary activities of ADPI are explored in this book. Broad Horizons / Larges Horizons illustrates the complimentary approach between engineer, architect and other specialists through to the relationship between art and science, documenting the development of projects in the making. Broad Horizons/ Larges Horizons explains the character of ADPIs work including the 'complexity of mobility', the scale and scope of the projects they undertake, and the intricate process of Master Planning and Urban Design. The climatic, cultural and geographical aspects of planning and design are explored in relation to their projects and as ADPI look to the future in long-term planning on large-scale developments, sustainable approaches are considered in their remit of helping communities to enlarge their horizons. This particular aspect of ADPIs work is explored in relation to the idea of airports being opportunities in developing countries, such as Bogota Airport in Columbia, or Chongqing Airport in China where the premise that airports today are intrinsic poles of exchange as well as important gateways to other cultures.
