Resumen del libro

A complete image change has turned concrete into the trendy building material for hip architects. Concrete is considered to be cool, reserved and timeless and although being simple and functional it can still be very decorative. The longlasting durability and multiple possibilities of how to use it have made concrete into the building material of our time. A far cry from the 60s and 70s when it was perceived as cold or even brutal, concrete has long gained the status of being an aesthetic and high quality material that is no longer used solely for building constructions. Thanks to new and improved techniques, the use of concrete for interior and exterior design has increased over the last few years and it is now a regular and popular working substance for renowned architects such Zaha Hadid Architects, OMA and Sanaa.
Concrete has not only gained regional but also international appreciation: Carefully planned and designed concrete buildings in western countries as well as Japan and South America, have given this material a complete makeover.
Gone are the times when casting was the only way of using concrete - the new innovative and self-compressing substance has made it possible to also shape concrete. By adding specific ingredients, concrete can be modified in order to make it almost soft and smooth to the touch - a quality you would not expect.
Mixing it with pigments can also create numerous colorful accents.
Considering many aspects does make the planning of these projects a
demanding task. But looking at the unique designs presented in this book, the individual and three-dimensional calling card for house builders and architects shows it is all worth it in the end.
